8°, engraved frontispiece, wide margins (very light occasional spotting), contemporary tree calf, intertwining gilt border on covers, spine decorated gilt with floral motif in compartments, red lettering-piece (lettering-piece faded), marbled edges.

FIRST EDITION of the authentic works of Musa, physician to Augustus and author of pharmaceutical works quoted by Galen, the chief source for these fragments. The treatises "De herba vettonica" and "De bona valitudine" published in the sixteenth century under his name are almost certainly not by him. Blake, p. 317; Osler 3478; Wellcome IV, p. 204.
