By descent from the sitter to Charles, 5th Lord Suffield, Gunton Park, Norfolk (recorded there by Duleep Singh, 25 August 1907, loc.cit.). Anon. sale, Sotheby's, London, 10 November 1982, lot 20, as 'Studio of Daniel Mytens', sold together with the following lot (£3850).

Lot Essay

Sir Charles Harbord, Kt., of Stanninghall, married Mary (for whom see the following lot), daughter of John Van Alst of Flanders, in 1626. He was Surveyor-General to King Charles I and King Charles II and died in 1679, aged 84. The sitter is shown in a suit of Greenwich armour, possibly manufactured in the 1620s.
