A fine agate snuff bottle
Qianlong four-character mark and possibly of the period
of octafoil ovoid shape with waisted neck, ruyi collar and lotus petals around the base, the vertical segmental sides delicately carved with a poem, hollowed from a stone of pale tone, stopper -- 2 7/8in. (6.7cm.) high.

The inscribed poem reading:
Dan yan meijing jing zhao hui
Yipian qingshan song cui fang
Taoli fenfang heng liang an
Chang kong duidui niao zheng fei
Qi qiao quzhe jin yu jia
Guli tingting jin shui ya
Yeban zhong sheng gui diao wan
Zhou wan yue ying ying shan han
This translates freely as:
In light mist a beautiful scenery, the peaceful dawn is radiant
One strip of green hills, the kingfishers are raised up from their nest Peaches and plums so fragrant, across twin shores
In growing empty sky, a pair of birds contend in flying
A bridge over the creek with its ins-and-outs, near a fisher man
Standing alone, solitary and near the shore
The sound of the bells at midnight, restored is the fall of evening
The reflections of the moon in the Island bay, a declining sun over the mountains
