A tachi [slung-sword] tsuba of black-lacquered leather with a gold-foiled rim, 15th century, diameter 2 9/16in. (6.5cm.); another for a katana with a shakudo [gold-copper alloy] rim, circa 1500, diameter 3 5/8in. (9.2cm.); an iron katchushi [armourer's] tsuba pierced with a daikon [giant radish] design, 15th century, diameter 3 9/16in. (9cm.), pitted; another, pierced with an axe design, 16th century, diameter, 3 13/16in. (9.7cm.); a Ko-Shoami tsuba pierced with a cloud design, 16th century, diameter 3in. (7.8cm.); an iron katchushi tsuba pierced with wheel motifs, 16th century, diameter 3 7/16in. (8.8cm.); another, pierced with mokko motifs, 16th century, diameter 3¾in. The first fifteen tsuba stored in a red lacquer box were in the collection of the painter Maeda Seison (1885-1977) and on loan to the Kyoto National Museum
