An unusual French brass mignonette carriage timepiece, circa 1890
Of lantern form, with loop handle to a pyramid top mounted with glass panels, white enamel Roman dial with blued steel hands, the single barrel movement with silvered platform to the bimetallic balance with lever escapement, the backplate stamped for A.DUMAS and numbered 266 -- 3¾in. (9.5cm.) high

Lot Essay

The design of this carriage clock is highly unusual. A clock of related design was sold these rooms The Dr Eugene and Rose Antelis Collection of Important French Carriage Clocks, 26 November 1998, lot 1. That example, also by Dumas, had porcelain panels and it is possible that this clock may also once have had such panels.
