An Edwardian quarter-chiming longcase clock, early 20th century
The case with elaborate trellis work cresting to the hood, sound fret panels to the sides and outset fluted columns with Corinthian capitals to the front, the glazed trunk door overlaid with leafy scroll and lattice mouldings and flanked by canted and fluted angles, the plinth with a shaped panel and raised on bracket feet, the 11in. wide gilt-brass dial engraved overall with foliate scrolls against a matted ground, the silvered chapter ring engraved with leafy sprays and signed MAPLE & CO. LONDON, applied with Arabic chapters, subsidiary seconds ring to the centre, with subsidiary rings to the arch above for Chime/Silent and Complin/Westminster Chimes, the substantial four pillar three train movement with dead beat escapement, quarter chiming on six gongs via six hammers and with hour strike on further gong, with trip repeat, steel rod pendulum with lenticular brass bob -- 97.5in. (248cm.) high
