A French gilt-bronze and porcelain striking mantel clock, third quarter 19th century
Modelled as a chariot pulled by goats and driven by a male and a female amorino, the dial formed from the wheel and with individual white enamel Roman chapters, royal blue enamel centre signed AMBROSONI PARIS, blued steel moon hands, on oval porcelain plinth decorated en grisaille against a royal blue ground with vignettes of amorini engaged in various activities, on feet cast as entwined vines and grapes, the rear cover also formed as a wheel, the twin barrel movement with countwheel strike on bell, with repeat signature to the backplate -- 21¼in. (54cm.) wide
