A George III ebonised and brass-mounted musical table clock for the Turkish market, late 18th century
The arched case with waisted pediment and crescent finial, with foliate cast sound frets to the sides, and on cabochon cast scroll feet, rear door detached, the later and polychrome decorated paper-lined dial with subsidiary rings to the arch for strike/silent and chime/silent, with tune selection to the centre (FILLION NOT. ERNCE AIR TENUR LIOPIPI), the Turkish chapter ring with inner concentric calendar ring, later hands, indistinct signature, the triple wire fusee movement with reconverted verge escapement, music on nine bells with ten hammers via a 3in. long pinned cylinder, hour strike on bell, pendulum holdfast to the foliate scroll engraved backplate; composite, case, dial and movement associated -- 19in. (48cm.) high
