Lot Essay

David McTavish kindly confirmed the attribution on the basis of a photograph. This sheet is connected to the left side of a drawing of the Annunciation in the Louvre, drawn in the same technique, D. McTavish in The Genius of Venice, exhib. cat., London, The Royal Academy, 1983, no. D54 (also in F.L. Richardson, Andrea Schiavone, Oxford, 1980, no. 191, fig. 183).
The present drawing bears an old attribution to Schiavone, while the Louvre sheet was only given to Schiavone by Philip Pouncey in the 1950s.
