Lot Essay

A very similar sword in the Wallace Collection (inv. no. A 692) bears the name of the London cutler Thomas Dealtry (recorded 1763-93) on the scabbard, and what is probably the mark of the London goldsmith William Kinman (recorded 1759-82) on the hilt. See Wallace Collection European Arms and Armour Catalogues and Supplement; A.V.B. Norman, The Rapier and Small-Sword, 1460-1820, plate 134
