A Scottish Basket-Hilted Broadsword, And A Composite English Sword Of 1786 Pattern Infantry Officer's Type
The first second quarter of the 18th Century, the second circa 1786-96
The first with tapering blade cut with three narrow fullers on each side, each fuller with worn 'Anddri Farari' inscription, iron hilt with guard of narrow bars involving S's (perhaps for Stirling) and pierced panels, scrolled wrist-guard, fluted flattened conical pommel, and wire-bound shagreen-covered grip (some pitting and discolouration); the second with fullered single-edged blade, double-edged towards the point, gilt-brass hilt with plain knuckle-guard and pierced hand-guard (both loose), cushion-shaped pommel, sword-knot ring, and reeded bone grip (blade with some pitting and discolouration, gilding worn)
