A Polish Or Hungarian Hetman's Mace And A Persian Or Turkish Mace
The first 17th Century, the second probably 18th or 19th Century
Each entirely of steel (acid cleaned), the first with large ovoidal head encircled by a narrow central rib with close-set vertical fluted gadroons above and below, and narrow collar linking it to the slender polygonal section haft with prominent central brass moulding above a screw joint, the lower part vertically fluted over a pot-shaped moulding linking it to the circular-section grip, slotted for a wrist-cord (missing), and with a small faceted conical pommel, the flutes and steel mouldings decorated throughout with recessed dots, some containing traces of gilding; the second with elongated head formed by two cones set base to base, and long slender haft of circular section terminating in a very small bun-shaped pommel, the surface throughout cross-hatched and with a few traces of silver damascening
