Lot Essay

Cf. A.E. Jones & Sir Leslie Joseph, Swansea Porcelain Shapes and Decoration (1988), p. 199, pl. 1 for a plate with a similar pattern. This tureen is probably from a service which was purchased directly from the factory by Mr. J.H. Vivian of Marino, Swansea, one of the first patrons of the factory.
