A fine late 19th-Century wooden tellurium, the 3-inch (7.6cm.) diameter terrestrial globe by Rand McNally & Co.'s New 3 Inch Terrestrial Globe Copyright 1891 by Rand, McNally & Co, made up of twelve chromolithographed gores, the equatorial and the equinoctial colure graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac with sigils, the continents with nation states variously and delicately coloured, the Antarctic with partial coastline, held on a short brass arm with attached wire arm for black-painted Moon ball and turned via a pulley system with string on the end of an elegantly shaped mahogany arm to the large gilt-painted sunball with wire arm for black-painted Mercury ball, raised on a baluster-turned mahogany pillar to circular plinth base with a cast iron ring of smaller diameter affixed beneath, the upper surface applied with a coloured circle of paper showing the months of the year, the houses of the Zodiac and the seasons, with THE HELIOTERRA DETROIT, MICH.
