Lot Essay

The Cheribon was built in 1882 by W. Denny & Bros., Dumbarton, for Cie Nationale de Navigation of Marseilles as a passenger ship to transport passengers along the Marseilles-New York connection. She made her first voyage along this route in 1886, carrying some 700 passengers. In 1900 the Cheribon was sold to Chilean interests. She met with her end on Remedios Reef, Panama, in November of 1902.
