A fine Lambert musical automaton clown guitar player,
the papier-mâché head painted with heart, club, diamond and spade symbols, with grey and yellow mohair wig, articulated eyelids and tongue, sitting cross legged on turned ebonised stool, the four-cam going-barrel movement in the base playing two airs and causing the figure to turn and raise his head, strum the guitar with his right hand, lift the neck of the instrument with his left, raise his right leg and then both legs together, bending from the waist, lowering his head, blinking and sticking out his tongue, in original printed satin costume and pale blue bolero jacket decorated with yellow ribbons and sequins, the base with LB key, tune-sheet and paper Au Nain Bleu label - 22in. (56cm.) high, circa 1900
