Incised to the base with a portrait of the artist Huang Yi (Huang Xiaosong) on his thirty-fourth birthday beside a four-character longevity blessing seal mark Jinshi changshou, the sides each incised with a two-column inscription in archaic script--6 7/8in. (17.4cm.) long, lacquer box and cover

Lot Essay

The term Jinshi changshou may be interpreted as 'long live connoisseurship'

Qian Dian (1741 or 1744-1806), from Jiading was a noted seal-carver, who was also renowned for carving stone tablets (stele). He was also a painter.
