With waisted sides and short square-section curved legs, the top carved to depict a scholar sitting in a pavilion painting a handscroll assisted by three attendants, beside a river with distant hills and standing cranes and an inscription describing the scene, the sides and legs with blossoming prunus branches, all on various diaper grounds, the nianhao written in gold lacquer in a single column on the underside (age cracks, small chips) --34 5/8 x 22½ x 12¼in. The inscription includes the seal Kui Sheng and translates loosely as:

Facing the snow-cold window I pour out wine. (They have) broken some (frozen) water in my warm apartment and boil up tea. Tipsy, I call out to the boy that I am about to make a painting. With a smile I paint pine, bamboo and prunus blossom
