The iron full-rigged ship Woolton was built by Oswald, Mordaunt & Co. in Southampton in 1885 to the order of R.W.Leyland. After eight years of profitable trade, mostly in Pacific waters, she disappeared without trace in November 1893 whilst en route from Newcastle, New South Wales to Valparaiso
