A PAIR OR FAMILLE ROSE RUBY-GROUND 'MEDALLION' BOWLS
DAOGUANG SEAL MARKS AND OF THE PERIOD

Each painted on the exterior with four circular panels of fruit and flower-sprays, all reserved on sgraffiato ruby ground enriched with lotus scroll, the centre of the interior painted in underglaze-blue with a basket of flowers beneath four flower-sprays in the well--5 3/4in. (15cm.) diam. (2)

Lot Essay

A bowl of this pattern and date in the W.T. Walters Collection is illustrated by Bushell, Oriental Ceramics, fig. 73; another in the Indianapolis Museum of Art in the Eli Lilly Collection is described by Mino and Robinson as depicting pomegranate, loquat, hibiscus, peach and camellia in the Catalogue, pl. 118.
