cover 1884 XU5 (opened out for display) to Germany (31.12 arrival) bearing on reverse 1883 opaque paper 3ca. vermilion and 5ca. chrome-yellow (defective corner), both indistinctly cancelled, and showing Customs c.d.s. for Tientsin (15.11) and Shanghai (19.11) alongside; unfortunately a further 1ca. value has been removed; front side bearing French "Sage" 25c. applied and cancelled at Shanghai. Despite being incomplete the XU5 shows much character and appeal. Photo
