A FOUR-CASE LACQUER INRO
edo period (19th century), signed kakosai tori and with jar seal

Of rectangular shape decorated in iro-e and sumi-e togidashi on a fundame ground with a pheasant perched on a branch of flowering plum, inscribed Hakugyokusai Hogen Eisen Fuji Sukenobu, the painter Kano Sukenobu (1730-1790), the reverse designed in silver and gold togidashi with interlocking stylized flower roundels against a brown lacquer ground sprinkled with kimpun, interior cases nashiji; fitted with a soft metal ojime cast with a flower basket and a wood manju netsuke lacquered with cherry blossoms--3¼in. (8.4cm.) high
