Of rectangular shape lacquered in takamaki-e, hiramaki-e, togidashi, nashiji and kirigane, and elaborately inlaid in mother-of-pearl, colored ivory and coral on a kinji ground, with a scene of oni assaulting a group of figures crossing an eight-plank bridge in a garden of blossoming iris, wisteria and cherries, one demon leaping from a wisteria bough grasping at the sleeve of a horrified courtier, the reverse with another oni carrying off a young girl as a frightened attendant struggles to pull his companion from the stream, signed within two inlaid silver cartouches, interior cases nashiji; fitted with a cinnabar lacquer bead ojime carved with bats and rui fungus and an ivory netsuke carved as three rats climbing on Daikoku's mallet, signed Hidechika --4½in. (10.4cm.) high
