A LACQUER ROUGE CASE

Designed as a small folding fan in the closed position, hinged at the base to allow the top of the fan to swing open, revealing the inner container with oblong wells for the rouge and lip brush; decorated on the exterior in takamaki-e, hiramaki-e, nashiji and kirigane with autumn grasses, gold and red pinks and gold bellflowers on a gold ground powdered with kimpun, the interior nashiji and fitted with a silver-mounted lip brush and small silver rouge box, the hinge silver and threaded with silk cords--5 3/8in. (13.7cm.) long, ¾in. (1.9cm.) high
