The gyobu ground vase of baluster form with four lobes and set on a quadrangular bracket base, with waisted neck and foliate rim, decorated on opposite sides with recessed silver-bordered reserves of inlaid mother-of-pearl, colored ivory, coral and aogai on a kinji ground with a samurai and maiden beneath a cherry, the reverse with birds and flowers by a stream, the reserves separated by scrolls illustrated with plovers circling over waves lacquered in gold hiramaki-e and togidashi, applied with silver enamelled handles at the corners, the rim lined in silver, signed on the base in two silver reserves--5½in. (14.5cm.) high
