The embroidery of double gourds on this cushion is unusual, although the theme of double gourds in the Qianlong period is quite common and seen as decoration on many media including porcelain, enamel wares and jades. Most cushions of this type are decorated with stylized floral and geometric motifs, as are several examples shown in situ in the Forbidden City, illustrate.
