A SIX-PIECE SILVER TEA AND COFFEE SERVICE
Maker's mark of Ball, Black & Co., New York, stamped ENGLISH STERLING, circa 1860, the sugar bowl, cream jug and waste bowl with cement filled stem obscuring marks
Comprising: a tea kettle, stand and lamp, teapot, long-necked coffee pot, two-handled open sugar bowl, cream jug and waste bowl, each urn form with straighted sided mid-section, one side with applied Classical portrait medallion, the other initialled script S, each flanked by tied berried laurel sprig, beaded band above, the tapering shoulder flat-chased with pendant arches, the pots with girdled scroll spout, engraved with partly matted arabesque, the highly raised angular scroll handle also with medallions, the hinged raised cover with conforming flat-chasing and topped by artichoke finial, the kettle on circular stand on four angled supports, twice pinned, the swing handle partly beaded, with paterae joins--height over handle 14in. (27.9cm.), gross weight all pieces 174oz., gross weight kettle, and two pots gross weight 130oz. (6)
