A SILVER HOT-WATER KETTLE ON STAND AND LAMP
Maker's mark of Eoff & Shepherd and Ball, Black & Co., New York, circa 1860
Baluster with broadly fluted neck, on four supports formed as entwined flowers, two sides with vacant oval cartouche within matted bold foliate scrolls, the sides chased with Chinese figures in landscape, also with further scrolls and flowers, with rusticated vine and floral applied high spout, the neck and hinged raised cover flat-chased with paired foliage, the cover topped by cast floral finial, with part foliate swing handle with grotesque mask joins, the twice pinned circular stand with conforming flat-chasing, raised on four caryatid and splayed foot supports, with cast floral festoon aprons between, with plain burner--kettle on stand over handle 15in. (38.1cm.), 70.5oz.
