EISENHOWER, DWIGHT D., President. Photograph inscribed and signed ("Ike Eisenhower") as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, n.p., circa 1945. 455 x 385 mm. (18 x 15¼ in.), mounted on board, a few minor cracks at margins. An oversized, half-length portrait of General Eisenhower in military uniform, apparently cupping a cigarette, inscribed on the lower margin: "For Ollie From his friend Ike Eisenhower."
Elmer Quillen Oliphant (to whom this and other photographs offered here are inscribed) was an outstanding American athlete. At Purdue he won 17 Varsity letters, and later became the only West Point athlete to win four letters in baseball, three in football, three in basketball and one in track. He had many friends among high-ranking officers of the U.S. Army (and a few in the Navy and Marine Corps).
