3 vols. in 2, folio, 487 (v. 2: 495) x 345 mm., contemporary half diced russia, spines gilt, edges untrimmed, small chip to backstrip of vol. 1, slight wear at head of spine of vol. 2, corners bumped, slight wear to board edges, traces of original blue paper wrappers at gutter of half-title, a few very short marginal tears, mainly to text leaves, faint marginal foxing or spotting to about 10 plates, slightly heavier foxing to plates 105 and folding plate 155-65.
FIRST AND ONLY EDITIONS. Eclogae plantarum: half-title, 2 letterpress titles, 167 hand-colored engraved plates, 3 folding (without the portrait called for by Nissen). Eclogae graminum: 40 hand-colored engraved plates (without the 8 plates of the unpublished facscicle 5, of which only proofs were issued, found in a few copies only).
THE TWO PRINCIPAL WORKS OF THE SON OF NIKOLAUS JOSEPH JACQUIN, both finished posthumously, the first by Eduard Fenzl and the authors daughter Isabella Schreibers, the second by Fenzl alone. As in his father's books, the plants depicted by Jacquin fils, who succeeded his father as director of the Schönbrunn gardens and in his other official capacities, are largely newly discovered exotic species, many South African.
