2 vols., 4to, 342 x 252 mm., early nineteenth-century English diced russia gilt, g.e., rebacked with original backstrips laid down, board edges andcorners worn, lacks half-titles, some foxing and spotting, mostly to text and towards the edges of the plates.
FIRST EDITION. 265 engraved plates by Dien, Plée (father and son) and Sellier after Piron, Poteau Suvage and Turpin.
An important description and illustration of the plants collected during the expedition under Rear-Admiral Bruny d'Entrecasteaux in search of La Perouse, 1791-95. Labillardiere (1755-1834), the French explorer and botanist had studied medicine at Montpellier and had travelled in Syria in 1786 (his Icones plantarum Syriae rariorum began its publication in 1791). See also lot 157 in the present catalogue, the collected set of the La Perouse expedition, which includes Labillardiere's Relation du voyage a la recherche de La Perouse (1799-1800).
