Lot Essay

The attribution of this maker's mark to Eckhard was made by Seling (Die Kunst der Augsburger Goldschmieder 1529-1868, Munich, 1980, vol. III, no. 785); Rosenberg however attributes this mark to Balthasar Ehem. The same mark appears in Strasbourg, where it is attributed to Henoch Brunn, who first entered a mark in 1654. Stylistically, an Augsburg origin seems for likely for the present lot.
