Lot Essay

Dosho, like his teacher Doraku (Dorakusai), is an early 19th century carver from Osaka who has tended to be overlooked in netsuke studies. In this model the tiger is straining to look fierce and intimidating without much success as the carver has chosen to give the tiger a humorous touch.
