Lot Essay

The screw steamship Mackinaw was built in 1890 by F. W. Wheeler & Company of W. Bay City, Michigan. The Mackinaw sailed out of New York Harbor until 1917, and was owned by Saginaw Steel S. S. Company.

Antonio Jacobsen is known to have created one image of the Mackinaw circa 1890; which is a sketch in the collection of the Mariners' Museum. The oil offered here is a previously unknown oil version of this boat.
