MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY), SIGNED YABU MEIZAN
The graceful ovoid vase with short, waisted neck and gilded rolled lip decorated with two large shaped panels set against a colorful flower ground, one panel painted with richly gilt figures and horses in a daimyo procession, the opposite panel painted with farmers harvesting rice, their fields bordering a bay and hills, the flower ground of overlapping flowerheads rendered in enamels of orange, pale blue, white and green accented with gilt, the neck encircled by a wide collar of chrysanthemum-petal panels, each containing a white enamel and gilded chrysanthemum spray, signed on a rectangular gilt reserve- 6 7/8 in.
