In the form of a blue porcelain elephant standing on rocaille base chased with leaves and applied with polychrome porcelain flowers, supporting a circular case enclosed by polychrome porcelain flowers on ormolu stems and surmounted by an ormolu monkey wearing tricorn cap, signed white enamel dial within chased leafy bezel, blue roman chapters and black arabic minute numerals, pierced gilt scroll hands, the signed movement with anchor escapement, thread suspension to pendulum, striking hour and half-hour on bell by means of crossed-out countwheel, case back elaborately pierced, basically third quarter 18th century, the elephant probably Oriental, 18th-19th century--17¼in. (44cm.) high
