A GEORGE IV DINNER SERVICE
LONDON, 1829, MAKER'S MARK OF THE BARNARD BROS.

Comprising four vegetable dishes and covers on plated warmer stands, each of shaped oval form, the gadrooned rims with acanthus, rocaille and anthemion at intervals, the fluted high domed covers engraved on one side with a coat-of-arms, two crests and motto, the other side with a presentation inscription, surmounted by a heraldic finial in the form of a demi-lion holding a pennant inscribed PENINSULA, marked on bodies, cover and finials, the stands on four acanthus scroll and flowerhead feet, with reeded acanthus side handles--length over handles 14 3/4in. (37.5cm.); and four shaped oval meat dishes, the gadrooned rims with similar acanthus, rocaille and anthemion at intervals, the borders engraved on one side with the same crests and on the other side with the same presentation inscription, marked under bases--one 22in. (56cm.), one 18in. (46cm.), and two 14 1/2in. (37cm.) long
