A FIVE-CASE LACQUER INRO
edo period (19th century), signed toju and with red kakihan
Of quatrefoil section, decorated in iro-e and sumi-e togidashi on a roiro-nuri ground with the wind and thunder gods amidst clouds, Raiden on one side beating on a ring of drums, inscribed below Isen hogen hitsu [Kano Naganobu (1775-1828)] and sealed, Futen on the reverse churning up winds with a length of red cloth, the base roiro and hirame, signed within a rectangular fundame cartouche, interior cases nashiji; fitted with a manju netsuke lacquered in iro-e hiramaki-e on a roiro ground with chrysanthemums and strips of brocade
