A LACQUER PICNIC SET (SAGEJUBAKO)

The large set contained in a rectangular carrying case holding a sake flask formed as two joined trunks of bamboo and fitted with a copper stopper, a rectangular food container above and one below the flask, five black and gold lacquer rectangular, footed dishes decorated with seasonal plants, a square tray with canted corners lacquered with pines along the shore at Hamamatsu, and a set of four stacking food boxes (jubako), decorated overall in gold and silver hiramaki-e and gold foil on a nashiji ground with a mythical beast and peonies on the top of the carrying case, bamboo, peaches and other flowers floating on a stream on the sake flask, the rectangular containers patterned with scrolling vines and the jubako patterned with chrysanthemums and maple leaves floating on a stream, the handle silver with flat, flower-form attachments
