Constructed to resemble a koto and lacquered overall in mokume togidashi to replicate the wood grain of the instrument, the strings and dragon-form ornament at one end of inlaid silver and the simulated brocade cloth at the opposite end of gold and silver hiramaki-e, the interior of the writing box and the lower compartment for writing implements nashiji, in the top tier fitted with a long and slender inkstone with fundame sides and nashiji base and a soft-metal mizuire cast in the form of a flute and shoulder drum in a bag, both in a removable tray, base of the writing box and four bracket feet nashiji, the rims silver
