Oblong 16mo, 2 1/2 x 3 3/4in. (63 x 95mm.), tiny hole in blank area, remnants of mounting on verso. "Mr. Johnson's compliments to Mr. Millar. He begs the favour of seeing the Elements of Criticism." Beneath this the antiquary and autograph collector William Upcott (1779-1845) has written: "A request made by Dr. Samuel Johnson -- to his publisher -- Andrew Millar of the Strand -- from whose stores I obtained it. -- Its originality is undoubted.
