(7 9/16 x 5 3/4 x 11/16in.), A JEWELLED BINDING WITH 35 STONES, crimson morocco, upper cover with single gilt fillet enclosing a broad border of onlaid interlaced strapwork on a stippled gilt ground set around an inner border of 28 sections of mother-of-pearl highlighted by 27 TURQUOISES, enclosing a panel design of swirling leaves in two shades of green morocco and white onlaid flowers against a ground of dense gilt dots, in the center a recessed heart-shaped panel framed with interlaced knotwork and enclosing a mother-of-pearl heart framed with onlaid white morocco flowers, highlighted by 7 GARNETS, against a background of swirling gilt leaves and gilt stippling; lower cover with a similar design showing different onlaid flower and leaf tooling and without the central recess and the jewels; spine in six compartments with five raised bands, gilt lettered in two compartments, a repeated panel of interlaced onlaid morocco strapwork on a stippled gilt ground with a heart ornament in the rest; board edges with single gilt fillet, turn-ins with white onlaid morocco gilt fan ornaments and blue onlaid strapwork borders and cornerpiece ornaments extending to the centers of the green crushed levant morocco doublures and forming a large centerpiece arabesque ornament, knotted with maroon onlaid strapwork on a stippled gilt ground, green morocco gilt-tooled free endpages, g.e., stamp-signed on upper turn-in: "Bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe London", silk and velvet lined straight-grained green morocco casement box (box worn).
