A SMALL SIGNED BAMBOO BRUSHPOT

Well carved in liuqing low relief with figures in a mountain retreat on one side and on the reverse with a lengthy inscription in xing shu and a seal, the base covered in black lacquer
3 15/16in. (10cm.) high

Lot Essay

The inscription is a long Tang poem or fu entitled Lou Shiming by Lin Yuxi. The carver's name and seal are those of Zhang Xihuang who was active in the late Ming. He was known for his carving of landscapes and figures and excelled in the liuqing technique
