A WELL-CARVED PALE CELADON JADE MARRIAGE BOWL
Jiaqing Four-Character Incised Mark and of the Period
The shallow bowl raised on five ruyi-shaped feet and with two openwork chrysanthemum handles at the rim suspending loose rings, the exterior carved and incised in medium relief with four butterflies within a continuous lotus meander, the center of the interior with lingzhi, wannianqing and peony, the underside with five radiating ruyi lappets surrounding the nianhao, the stone of pale grayish-green tone with an area of pale brown mottling

Lot Essay

The combination of lingzhi and wannianqing forms a rebus which may be translated, "May your wishes come true for the next ten thousand years". With these wishes the inclusion of peony, fuguihua (riches and rank), is a natural addition to the decoration
