EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1750), SIGNED YANAGAWA NAOMITSU AND KAO

The fuchi and kashira have shakudo nanako grounds and are decorated with inlaid gold tigers in high relief.

Lot Essay

Yanagawa Naomitsu (1733-1809) was the student and adopted son of Yanagawa Naomasa. He was born into the Nakamura family of Shimosa in Iwaki province. After studying in Edo he returned to Shimosa. His name is mentioned in the list of artists compiled by Inaba Tsuryo in his Soken kisho in 1781.
