AN ISHIGURO SCHOOL TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (DATED TEMPO 4 [1833]), SIGNED JUGAKUSAI ISHIGURO MASAYOSHI

The oval shakudo nanako plate is decorated in relief inlay of various soft metals which depict a hawk on a pine branch. The design extends to the reverse to show the trunk of the tree and a meandering stream. There are slight scratches to the nanako and the seppa-dai--height 6.9cm., width 6.5cm., thickness 5mm.

Double wood storage boxes. Inner box with inscription by Sato Kanzan, dated autumn, 1972.

Accompanied by a tokubetsu kicho certificate issued by the N.B.T.H.K., no. 145, dated April 15th, 1971.

Ishiguro Masayoshi (1774-1843) was a student of Sano Naoyuki and Ishiguro Masatsune I (1760-1829).
