A MUTSU MIYOSHI KATANA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1660), SIGNED MUTSU DAIJO MIYOSHI NAGAMICHI
Configuration (sugata): with longitudinal ridge line (shinogi-zukuri), shallow peaked back (iori-mune) and medium point (chu-kissaki); length (nagasa): 2 shaku, 4 sun, 8 bu (75.2cm.); curvature (sori): koshi-zori of 1.2cm.; increase in width of blade (fumbari): 0.9cm.
Forging pattern (jihada): a tight but clear wood grain (itame), with the shinogi being masame.
Tempering pattern (hamon): shallow undulations (notare) with large undulations (gonome) in ko-nie.
Point (boshi): small and rounded (ko-maru).
Tang (nakago). Shape (keitai): regular and unshortened (ubu); file marks (yasurime): kiri-yasuri; end (nakagojiri): rounded (kurijiri); holes (mekugi-ana): one; signature (katanamei): Mutsu Daijo Miyoshi Nagamichi.
Shirasaya with attestation signed Kunzan (Homma Junji).
Accompanied by a tokubetsu kicho token certificate issued by the N.B.T.H.K., no. 366220, dated Showa 54 (1979); and a koshu tokubetsu kicho token certificate issued by the N.B.T.H.K., no. 18794, dated Showa 54 (1979).
