Lot Essay

Diana was first exhibited as a life size plaster in 1889 and copyrighted in 1894. While the artist utilized both French and American foundries to cast the model (in the present size and a reduction of 18½in.), he preferred the quality of the French casts.
Another example of this model with identical inscriptions and foundry seal was sold in these Rooms May 22, 1989, lot 184.
