EDO/MEIJI PERIOD (19TH CENTURY)

The rectangular box on footed base fitted with two hinged doors opening to reveal four drawers, decorated on the doors of the box with a scene of two court ladies attending a gentleman, the sides with further figures and the back with the balcony of a villa, all rendered in gold, black, silver, and red lacquer with a variety of details, the insides of the doors decorated with a palanquin or brush fence, the doors ornamented with flowers of the four seasons set on four differently colored grounds, the interior of the box and drawers nashiji, silver mounted chased with flowers- 7 x 5 x 6 5/8 in. (17.8 x 12.7 x 16.8 cm.)
