The exhibition Film und Foto was a singular event both in scale and philosophy, leading to the broad dissemination of the New Vision's aesthetics as prophesied by Moholy-Nagy. Organized by Gustav Stolz of the Deutschen Werkbund, it was selectively international in scope (not including material from fascist Italy) but truly extensive. Nearly 1,000 photographic works were shown, selected by advisors from Europe and America including Steichen and Weston, Lissitzky, Karel Teige and others. Three catalogs were prepared from the exhibition's content, including Franz Roh and Jan Tschichold's (to whom the design for the poster has been arguably attributed) Photo Auge. The exhibitors included virtually every photographic artist associated with the avant-garde, influencing and defining perhaps for the next 50 years, what it means to use photographic imagery in design, the media, and, not least, art.
